Our Glory Days!

Our Glory Days!!! In the Name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.  He who aspires for a divine ecstasy,an everlasting happiness, peace of mind in times of overwhelming trials should make the Qur'an his companion. In the 47th page of "Suwarun min hayaati-t-Taabi'in of Shaykh AbdurRahman Raafata al-Baashaa the amazing accolades of Urwa ibn Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (RA) were enumerated. One such accolades is his amazing love for the Qur'an. He had an amazing passion and love for the Qur'an. Nothing could ever separate him from the Words of Allaah. He would read a quarter of the Qur'an during the hours of the day looking into the Qur'an and he will stand up at night for Tahajjud reciting this quarter of the Qur'an from memory. He did this from the time of his youthful age (14 years) till the day he died at the age of 71....except for one day in which his leg was amputated. Daily for 57 years (20,748 days) he read half the Qur'an.  We also had the likes of Saeed ibn Musayyib (RA) the in-law of Abu Hurayrah (RA) who never missed the Takbiratul ihram of all the five daily prayers for the period of 40 years (72,800 obligatory prayers).  These were our glory days. Brothers and sisters in Islam, I only share this with you latching on to the hope that perhaps through it, Allaah can inspire us to emulate them. Remove music and substitute it with Qur'an.  Eschew lackadaisical attitude towards Salat and be prompt and steadfast in observing Salat. May Allaah guide us.
