Rajab: One of The Sacred Months!!!

In the Name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Allaah's Power, Might and Dominion over His creations makes Him the Sole Decision Maker in the Entire Universe.

Allaah out of His Divine Wisdom created the creation and ordained therein 12 months as He said in Suratul Taubah Q9:36

"Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein....."

Of these months, three are in succession Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab of (the tribe of) Mudar.

Brothers and sisters, these months are made sacred by Allaah Himself and He's asked us not to wrong ourselves in them (also in all other months).

Sinning in this Month of Rajab is worse than sinning in other months. In the same vain, rewards of righteous deeds are multiplied therein.

Injustice in this month of Rajab is worse and graver than injustice in other months.

We have to sanctify what Allaah has sanctified.

However, a lot of 'ibada are being attributed to this month which in fact are baseless in the Islamic Shari'ah. We have to be circumspect not to fall into the trap of Satan thinking that we are doing the right thing.

Of such deeds is the regularisation and singling out of fasting in the month. In Majmoo' al-Fataawa of Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on hin) he said: "As for fasting in Rajab in particular, the ahadeeth concerning that are all da'eef (weak), and in fact mawdoo' (fabricated).

His renowned student, Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr ibn Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Manaar al-Muneef that: "Every hadeeth which mentions fasting in Rajab and praying during some of its nights is false and fabricated."

Brothers and sisters in Islam, the sacredness implied in these months means fighting (Jihad) therein is Haram (forbidden) unless initiated by the enemy and committing sins in these months is more forbidden.

So let us concentrate on abandoning our sins more in this month and increasing in our righteousness rather than dwelling on false and fabricated ahaadeeth to initiate multiple fasts and singling out 27th of Rajab for special Tahajjud.

May Allaah give us the ability to sanctify what He has sanctified and establish us firmly on the path of the people of understanding and comprehension.‎
